What is PLPD?

PLPD  stands for Personal Liability and Property Damage (car insurance Michigan).

This means that your auto insurance policy contains only the coverage required by the law in Michigan.  In most cases if a person only has basic PLPD it means you don’t have collision or comprehensive coverage.  These are things like collision, fire, theft or vandalism.  It also means that you have them minimum liability limits of $20,000/$40,000.  In Michigan motor vehicles are required by law to carry PLPD.  We advise that you get comprehensive coverage.  We also advise adequate liability coverage and adequate property damage coverage.  It is also very important that you also have Uninsured and Underinsured Motorist coverage (UM and UIM).  Please see those sections for more information.

Many times old clients of our firm contact us to make sure their insurance coverage is adequate.  We are always more than happy to talk to you about your automobile insurance policy.  We may be able to explain some aspects of your policy that you do not understand.  It may help to have an attorney’s perspective on your policy.  Make sure your coverage is what you want and expect.  There is nothing more frustrating than getting into an auto accident and not having the coverage you thought you had.

Please see our no fault/PIP information page for more information on this topic.

  • Dear Mr. Mindell,
Your slogan states: “Experience Dedication Success”. I believe in my heart, strongly added to that should have been, “Honest Fair Integrity”. For those are the finest principles in you, and that was my experience of what you most importantly instilled and guide your practice on. Thank you so much. I do so respect you.
