Big Changes to Michigan Auto Insurance? Tell Gov Snyder the people say “No!”

According to a report in the Detroit News,  Michigan Governor Rick Snyder would like to eliminate an essential portion of No Fault Insurance Coverage.

The article, which you can read here, explains that the Governor is pushing an auto insurance reform proposal that would eliminate the state’s unlimited coverage for severe crash injuries and replace it with a plan limited to $1 million.

Now $1 million may sound like a significant amount of coverage. However, for someone that has suffered a catastrophic injury, expenses could top that in a few months! Further, a catastrophically injured victim could require a lifetime of care.

If Gov Snyder’s plan goes through, who will pay for medical care once the victim’s bills reach $1 million? Your tax dollars. These victims will resort to Medicaid to pay their medical costs once the cap is in place.

While there are serious problems to consider, and reforms could certainly be achieved, this is not the proper solution. Gov Synder’s plan will allegedly reduce rates for Michigan insured by $125 annually. It hardly seems a fair trade, to give up lifetime medical coverage for what amounts to $3.00 a week.
