Attorney Call Backs

I have an attorney for my car accident, he is not with your firm and he is not returning my calls.  Is this normal?

No.  In our opinion an attorney has an ethical responsibility to keep the client updated on the progress of their case.  Unfortunately, this is a common complaint with other attorneys.  We have an office policy that we always return our clients calls as soon as possible.  Sometimes, being attorneys, we are in court, or in depositions or facilitations, so we can’t get back to our clients for a day or so, but anything longer than that is not acceptable.  If you have an attorney who is not returning your calls and you feel is not keeping you up to date on your case, you always have the right to discharge him and hire another attorney.

One main complaint we hear from clients who have worked with other law firms is that they don’t get called back.  Sometimes people say they are not even kept in the loop about their case.  We feel that it is important to get a call back within a reasonable period of time.  If you are not getting called back the question is always why?  Is there someone on that attorney’s staff that can explain to you why you are not being called back in a resonable period of time?  Are you you leaving messages?  Where are you leaving the messages, on the attorney’s voicemail or elsewhere?  If you have left multiple messages and you feel certain the attorney has been, or should be, getting them and is not calling you back, that in our opinion is a problem that needs to be addressed.
