“Slip and Fall Store?” I had a fall at a store.
Slip and Fall Store
I was shopping in a big box store (name taken out) and fell on something slippery. I want them to pay my medical bills but they are saying they are “not liable.” Is this true?
That depends. These can be challenging cases in Michigan depending on the specific circumstance of your fall, but that doesn’t mean you don’t have case. For example, say an employee mopped the floor and forgot to put a sign down. You then come around a corner and fall seriously injuring yourself. In that case, the store is most likely liable. However, in another example a fellow shopper drops his or her drink and a few minutes later you slip on the liquid. In that case, the store is not likely liable because they really could not have discovered that spill so quickly.
Now as to whether you have a case, that depends on many questions that we need answered to give a good opinion. Things such as where did you fall? What did you fall on? How long had this been known to the property owner? Was it visible or difficult to see? Did you know it was there or not?
